On Palace Gate, across Kensington Road from Kensington Gardens

Palace Gate runs south from Kensington Road at the south-west corner of Kensington Gardens, a residential street of tall Victorian houses between the park and Gloucester Road. Across the road, the gardens open out to the Round Pond and Kensington Palace, eight minutes' walk, where the State Apartments and the Sunken Garden are open to visitors. Hyde Park continues east beyond the Serpentine, and the Albert Memorial and the Royal Albert Hall are eight minutes along Kensington Gore.

Kensington High Street, ten minutes west, has shops of every kind, a large Whole Foods Market in the old Barkers building and, further along, the Design Museum. Gloucester Road, to the south, has cafés, restaurants and everyday shops. The museums of Exhibition Road are close by: the Natural History Museum is 13 minutes' walk and the V&A 17, with the Science Museum between them, and the Royal Albert Hall holds concerts all year, the Proms each summer.

High Street Kensington station, ten minutes' walk, is on the Circle and District lines. Gloucester Road, also ten minutes away, adds the Piccadilly line, direct to Knightsbridge, the West End and Heathrow. Buses along Kensington Road run east past Knightsbridge to Hyde Park Corner, and the walk across Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park reaches Marble Arch in about half an hour.
